In late 2012 author Christopher Knight approached Scott Castelein, owner of Lake Street Media of Petoskey, to make a feature film about his novel "Bestsller," which was released throughout Michigan in 2002. Castelein agreed to take on the role of producer and director of photography. Shortly thereafter he brought on his business partner, Christina Rohn, who is directing the film. Lake Street Media and Knight's film company, Misery Bay Films, recently partnered with CDI (Collective Development Incorporated) out of Lansing to move the project forward. Principal photography on BESTSELLER has been wrapped as of November 2nd. Next, the film heads into post production. Starring in the film is Melissa Anschutz of Saugatuck and DJ Perry, CEO of CDI.
The film is about Chicago literary agent, Anne Harper, who vacations to a cabin in a remote area of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. While there, she receives an unexpected manuscript on her doorstep. It is from wannabe author, Gerald Morgan, whom she has refused to sign with her agency on numerous occasions. The manuscript — “Bestseller” — is written with Harper in mind. It is about a successful literary agent who is stalked, tortured and killed by a disgruntled author while vacationing in northern Michigan. As Harper reads through the manuscript, she comes to the realization that the story isn’t quite fiction — in fact, it’s about to become her reality.
